Partial Dentures

A partial denture or removable bridge is a prosthetic device used to replace several missing teeth. It consists of a thin metal framework that holds plastic denture teeth that are set in pink acrylic to resemble gum tissue. The device is made from a custom mold of your mouth. It has metal clasps that secure it to a minimum of two anchor teeth. It is very important that your partial denture be designed properly. It must not damage the anchor teeth during function. A special type of partial denture called Equipoise is used in our office to minimize damage to the anchor teeth. In this system the clasps are on the inside making these partials esthetically pleasing. Partial dentures are used when the patient does not have enough teeth for fixed bridgework, or does not have enough bone for implants. They are also used to minimize cost and as a holding device until more definitive treatment can be attempted.
